Americans have been singing God Bless America since the song was introduced by Kate Smith on Armistice Day in 1938. The composer, Irving Berlin who was a native of Russia and an immigrant to America, loved his newly-found country and wanted to sing about one of his most cherished blessings. The blessings America has received from God are beyond comparison as God has poured out his mercy into a country of undeserving and ungrateful citizens. Now it is time to start singing America, Bless God!

 

        The second week in November, 2004, our defense mechanism, the Pentagon, shamefully surrendered to the American Civil Liberties Union which is an enemy of the United States. After a lengthy legal battle the Pentagon conceded that the Boy Scouts of America can no longer hold their meetings at U.S. government facilities including military installations. The scouts take an oath with an allegiance to God. Therefore, the God who has blessed America since before its founding can no longer be blessed on government property in the good ol’ USA. Yes, we sing a song of God Bless America, our President ends his speeches with God bless America, and yet the scouts can’t speak God’s name if they are on government property. Our merciful gift is that regardless of how Americans treat God He will continue to bless this country—but for how much longer?

 

        There are still Christians living in America who ask God’s forgiveness for the way we act. We do our best to persuade others to live by God’s law just as Jesus instructs us in the Holy Bible. God is so patient but there will come a time when He will say enough is enough. He will call an end to this world as we know it. It is my prayer that every person including those who discredit His name in vain will come to personally know God. But according to His Word that will not happen. Paul, an apostle of Jesus, speaks of the end times to the church in Thessalonica; “For you yourselves know well that the day of the Lord comes like a thief in the night. For when they are saying, ‘Peace and safety,’ then sudden destruction will come on them . . . and they will in no way escape (1Thessalonians 5:2-3).” Americans must revert back to the ways of God which were lived by our founding fathers before it is too late.

 

        Our forefathers knew that God’s blessings of America began long before this country was officially founded. There is no other country in the world that has as much fertile land and bodies of water as that of America. There are not many countries other than the United States of America which can be self-sustaining. No country in the world has the luxuries of living and the opportunities of which this land boasts. Yet, there are many people living in America who consistently condemn our country and the God who provided it.

 

        The Jewish nation had been turning their back on God since the day He freed them from the Egyptians. Remember Moses throwing the “Ten Commandments” at God’s people when they returned to a life of idolatry and filth? However, God continued to bless them, provide for them, and call them His chosen people. Remember how America was founded by immigrants who wanted to be free to worship and how in schools they taught their children from the Bible? We have left those principles but God still blesses us. Remember when Abraham Lincoln spoke these words as part of his Gettysburg Address? "We here highly resolved that these dead shall not have died in vain--that this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom--and that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth.” President Lincoln knew that for America to remain a free nation for its people it had to be a nation under God.

 

        This nation temporarily awoke from slumber on September 11^th, 2001, when we were attacked by terrorists from the Muslim religion. Bin Laden and others of the Muslim faith have declared a ‘jihad’ which is a religious battle where they will fight until their death or ours. America, it’s time to get serious about blessing God so that He will continue to protect us against the foes of our freedom as we pray for the souls of the enemy.

America’s foes are not just terrorists. The enemy lives in your neighborhood right down the street and they will fight until death. There are foes of America who hold political offices in this country. Our country’s enemies work for the ACLU. There are foes of America who want to keep prayer out of schools and take God’s name out of existence. And yes, there are foes of this country who sit motionless in their easy-chairs. They come home from church, throw their Bible on the shelf, and then tune out the world. The enemy next door dishes out hatred for God and His people and we are not doing much about it, are we?

 

        We can no longer afford to be politically correct. We must quit preaching sermons to make people feel good and start preaching the truth. We must speak the truth. We have asked God to bless America long enough and now it is time for America to bless God!
